Welcome Andrea Critchley!

We are THRILLED to welcome ANDREA CRITCHLEY to the Character Abbotsford Council!  BIO Andrea Critchley is the Executive Director of Abbotsford Hospice Society. As a Communicator, NP executive, and leadership coach, she serves on many boards and committees to support the community of Abbotsford. She enjoys training, and connecting with other organizations and leaders, to expand the arm of grief support from AHS to other community services. She cares about the emotional wellness of children, teens, and families and works to ensure there is always support available during the most difficult times. Her leadership Abbotsford Hospice Society, continues the vision and the legacy of serving the community for 37 years, providing end-of-life support and grief care to our community, with the loss of a loved one.

Welcome Jasmit Singh Phulka!

  We are thrilled to welcome JASMIT SINGH PHULKA to the Character Council! Bio Jasmit Singh Phulka was born on October 11, 1993. He is a Canadian free-style wrestler hailing from Abbotsford, BC. In 2010, at the age of 16, Jasmit won the gold medal at his first-ever international tournament representing Team Canada – the Youth Commonwealth Championships in Singapore. Alongside his pivotal win, he created Canadian history by becoming the first Canadian to win the Outstanding Youth Wrestler Award. Since then, Jasmit Singh Phulka has consistently been one of Canada’s top wrestlers and worldwide. Beyond his successful wrestling career, Phulka has also been actively involved in community work involving youth all across the Lower Mainland. His focus includes over three years mentoring at-risk South Asian youth with the Abbotsford Police Department, two years of weekly volunteering with the Canucks Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford, and a substantially successful annual toy-drive during t

  CHARACTER IN ACTION AWARDS 2023 PRESS RELEASE Contact: Vijay Manuel ( character.abby@gmail.com ) Character Abbotsford Society honoured three citizens at its May 18, 2023 Character Council meeting with CHARACTER IN ACTION Awards.    The recipients of the 2023 CIA Awards are Harpreet Jhinjar, Yobdee Marazzi, and Raymonde Tickner.   Harpreet Jhinjar was recognized for his work with the Pathways Program intended to increase grassroots community engagement and reach out to the families of at-risk youths. In a compelling moment, Chief Serr explained that “12 years ago our city was known for being the homicide capital in Canada. For the past two years, we have not had any gang-related homicides in Abbotsford. This is in part due to the good work of Harpreet Jhinjar.” Yobdee Marazzi, a grade 10 student at MEI Schools, was nominated by Jory Smallenberg for her inspiring volunteerism, particularly in the health care profession. Passionate about the economic potential of the Fraser Valley, Alex Mitchell is the CEO of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce where she works to ensure the voice of Abbotsford's business community is heard at every level of government. Prior to this, Alex was a Director with Hill + Knowlton Strategies, one of the world's leading public relations agencies, where she provided strategic advice on corporate reputation, media relations, and crisis communications planning to clients across Canada. Alex brings a robust understanding of intergovernmental affairs and advocacy with a strategic approach that is informed by her previous roles in the municipal economic development space with a focus on sector development in clean technology, agriculture, and ag-tech.
